Kimono panel 1 complete

Just what it sounds like, as of 12:27 AM this morning I just finished kimono panel no. 1.

Kimono Saved by Crochet hook

Any anime knitter, even if they don't crochet should keep a crochet hook around. My kimono nearly met an untimely end when I knit too much length on it, and undid some rows, and undid too much. My crochet hook saved my rapidly unraveling hours of work from a very untimely end.

Progress

I'm almost at the end of a whole softball sized ball of pink yarn working on my kimono panel, and am about halfway through my first pair of mittens. In addition the pointed harry potter hat I'm working on I've begun the decreases.

I'm going to try and finish the kimono panel before I continue work on the Renji scarf. I'm trying to alternate what projects I work on, an hour on this, an hour on that.

Noro, every anime fan should know it...

Noro yarn is art in fiber, samples are depicted below. Eisaku Noro takes different blends of scrap fibers and other yarns and blends them into rainbows of soft and silky color.

Noro yarn is extremely expensive, but any anime knitter that is looking for an effect should be familiar with Noro, and pounce on it whenever its on sale. However, be warned that Noro is /expensive./ It is the Gucci, the Coach, the Dulce and Gabana of imported yarns. Be ready to shell out between 8.50 and 25 USD a skein, depending on the type, size and store you shop at. By contrast, if you buy sport yarn from walmart, you're paying between 1.50 and 6.00 USD depending on the size of the skein.

A horrible afternoon and the Universe is a mindfuck

I had the most horrible afternoon, running around town trying to get my benefits squared away and making sure that my mail was indeed coming to where it should be. I still can't get ahold of DSS to get my food stamps taken care of and I had to stop before I drive myself to an anxiety attack.

So right now, I'm taking like smaller balls of yarn, and winding them into larger balls of yarn, that way they'll (hopefully) be easier to store and find when I need them. And while I do my mind is occupied with the history channel series the universe.

I love the universe, its my favorite history program besides "life after people." I love the Universe because the best episodes are a "mind fuck" that is to say it screws with your head, and your imagination. My favorite episodes are ones like "Parallel universes" "Alien faces" and "Cosmic Apocalypse" that venture heavily into theoretical science and usually end with a surprise that becomes an existential "ZOMFG, what the f--k woah? My mind just got blown." Its totally awesome.

My first project list

These are a list of anime themed projects I'm working on. My patterns are going to start simple, then get harder.

Renji Headband
Hihio Zabimaru hat and scarf set
Shinigami Uniform Thong

In the planning stages...

Global Pokedex Plus novelty hats including Easter Buneary, Zergoose, Squirtle Clone, Charmander Clone and Bulbasaur Clone.

The Knitting Shinigami

My name is Gwen Ryuunami, I'm a beginning knitter living in Pittsfield Massachusattes. Besides knitting, my obsession is also anime. I'm a huge fan of the anime Bleach, as well as Deathnote, Naruto, Code Geass, Blood+ and a large number of anime, most of which are from Cartoon Network. Because I am so into bleach, you may refer to me as Shinigami.

I wanted so badly to find anime themed knitting patterns, and yet google pro I am not, so my attempts at researching the patterns i wanted turned out to be bust.

I normally am not the blogging kind, I use livejournal to keep roleplay logs, but I had an interesting idea today. Create a series of knitting patterns of my own based on my favorite anime and then publish the designs on a blog. Eventually, collect the designs into a book, maybe even publish it.

I also add that you will find no Amigurumi here. While I think its absolutely ADORABLE, I can't even crochet chain 1.
